IF THERE'S LEADERSHIP
IN YOU DCS
CAN BRING IT OUT
OCS (Army Officer Candidate School)
is a 14-week challenge to all that’s in you... the
mental, the physical, the spirit that are part of
what makes a leader.
If OCS were easy, it couldn’t do the job. It
wouldn’t bring out the leader in you, or help you
discover what you have inside.
But when you finish and graduate as a com
missioned officer in the Army, you’ll know. You’ll
know you have what it takes to lead. And you’ll be
trim, alert, fit, and ready to exercise the leadership
skills that civilian companies look for.
If you’re about to get your degree and you
want to develop your leadership ability, take the
OCS challenge.
Call your local Army Recruiter, and ask
about OCS.

Sherrill
trying to
fill holes
By BOB CASTER
Sports Writer
Texas A&M head football
coach Jackie Sherrill may be
considering buying space in the
classified section of the newspa
per. If so, it would probably say,
“Wanted: A few good men to
fill linebacker and nose guard
positions. Apply in person at
Kyle Field - experience help
ful.”
While things may never get
that drastic, filling those posi
tions is a dark cloud that has
been looming over Sherrill’s
head since the Sunday morning
after the A&M-Texas game.
After the Aggies’ weekly
scrimmage on Thursday, that
was still the most persistent
thing on Sherrill’s mind.
“The best move we’ve made,”
he said, “is moving Johnny Hol
land to linebacker. We still need
to find a nose guard and inside
linebackers.”
Holland, who will be a sopho
more next fall, was recruited as
a quarterback before being
moved to defensive back.
The Aggies lost five lineback
ers this year, four of which were
starters in 1983. That group ac
counted for 32 percent of all
the Aggies’ tackles last season.
Another dilemma Sherrill is
faced with is injuries. Granted
football is a sport where injuries
are a fairly common occurance
but when they cut into a coach’s
starting lineup, that’s when
things gget serious.
“We’ve got seven starters on
the sideline right now that need
to work,” Sherrill said. “They
will be gone for the rest of the
spring.”
Among the injured starters
are defensive lineman Rod Sad
dler and offensive linemen
Nate Steadman and Matt Dar
win, a second-team all-cot
ence center last season.
But in spite of injuries!
shortage in the linebacker
ket, Sherrill should still ban
lot to be happy about Ait

Ho
Ag women lose to No.1 Titans
By DAVE SCOTT
Sports Writer
The No. 1 ranked women’s
softball team came to town yes
terday; and they defeated the
No. 4 ranked team, 3-1.
Although the Aggies (No.4)
lost to Cal. State-Fullerton
(No.l), the Titans are staying in
town for the Texas A&M invita
tional tournament this week
end. So A&M will have a chance
for revenge when the two teams
meet Sunday afternoon.
Shawn Andaya lost her sec
ond game of the year, but she
gave up just three hits and two
walks while striking out six.
Coach Bob Brock said that An
daya pitched well, but her inex
perience showed through.
“I’m real happy with the way
Shawn pitched against the No. 1
team,” Brock said. “But I think
she showed a little of her fresh
man blood out there. She lost
some of her speed a few times.”
The Aggies started the scor
ing in the second inning. Gaye
McNutt doubled, scoring Josie
Carter, who had singled and
stolen second base.
Befuddled by a slow motion
change-up, those two liil
