Bomb
suspect
sought
United Press International
DAI.LAS — Police ques
tioned a 21-year-old security
guard Thursday and searched
the Houston area for a second
suspect in the death of a man
killed by a bomb placed in a
newspaper vending rack.
Marshall Dewayne Williams,
21, of Mesquite turned himself
in to police shortly after mid
night Thursday, police spokes
man Bob Shaw reported.
“He was arrested here at at
police headquarters,” Shaw said.
“He came in to talk to police ab
out the case. He didn’t come in
here to surrender as such. He
just came in to talk. It was later
that the arrest was made.”
Williams was arrested for in
vestigation of murder in the
death of Ward Keeton, 63, who
died when a bomb exploded
Jan. 27 as he pulled a copy of the
Dallas Morning News from a
rack at his apartment complex.
Keeton, a property super
visor for a real estate manage
ment firm, was killed instantly
when the pipe bomb exploded at
about 5:15 a.m.
Shaw would not say if police
had determined a motive in the
bombing.
Williams Thursday appeared
before a magistrate at the Lew
Sterrett Justice Center and was
placed under a $50,000 bond.
Shaw said authorities were
also searching the Houston area
for a second suspect in the case.
Richard Garner, a special
agent with the Bureau of Alco
hol, Tobacco and Firearms in
Dallas, said more arrests were
possible.
“It’s still an ongoing investiga
tion, and several leads are being
followed by the Dallas police de
partment and Alcohol, Tobacco
and Firearm agents working
together,” he said.
Garner said fragments of the
bomb were still being tested at
the ATF lab in San Francisco.
