United Way
(continued from page 1)
The United Way allocates its
money quarterly to the organi
zations it supports, so the final
allocation of the money from
this drive won’t be until October
1984. Fleischer said this gives
them plenty of time to reach the
goal or to make adjustments.
But Fleischer said he won’t be
disgruntled if the goal isn’t
reached because of the large in
creases his organization has ex
perienced in the past few years
— 30 percent last year and 17
percent both years before that.
The 1983 goal represented a
15 percent increase over 1982,
which Fleischer said is still high
er than the national average in
crease of 10 percent.
“Even though you don’t
reach that magic figure there’s
still a lot of positive things you
have to look at,” he said.
Williams said he thinks the
whole local United Way organi
zation is running exceptionally
well.
He said the board menils

Yet Fleischer said the average
attendance at election meetings
is about 30. The bylaws require a
membership quorum of 27.

CCF.
“Sponsorworld” — a CCF
publication that reaches 250,000
sponsors, published an article
this summer about the Texas
A&M village project. CCF,
which calls T exas A&M’s project
‘Total Project Sponsorship,’ sug
gested that the idea might be ap
plied to other U.S. academic in
stitutions with sizable student
Ijodies.
CCF Executive Director,
James MacCracken also sug-
f ;ested that partners could he
ound among employees and
managers of major U.S. corpor
ations — especially those in
volved in fields of food produc
tion, engineering and health.
Already, inquiries about the
village project are being re
ceived from around the country.
A woman at Boston Universi
ty who sponsors a CCF child has
contacted Kellner about the pro
ject. If the Texas A&M project is
successful, he said, she hopes to
receive help from a Catholic
group at the school to support a
village.
Representatives from Uni
versity of Florida, University of
Nebraska and several corpora
tions have contacted CCF to in
quire about the project, Kellner
said.
“They’re interested in doing
what they can,” he said. “It is in
