And to facilitate the Cowboys’ stretch drive, Landry and his staff conducted the team’s annual re-evaluation last weekend following Dallas’ Thanksgiving Day game. “The kind of game we played on Thanksgiving Day (a win over St. Louis) that we need to play to beat a good team. Rollie White Coliseum. Holloway, who also had six steals, hit 7 of 12 shots from the field and 9 of 9 from the free throw line to push the Aggies to their second win of the season against no losses. Prairie View dropped to 0-3. The Aggies, who opened the season Saturday with a win over Texas Lutheran College, pulled away from the Panthers early in the contest and were never se riously contested. Led by Hollo way — who scored 10 of A&M’s first 17 points — and fellow freshman Winston Crite, the Aggies coasted to a 43-21 half time lead. The second half was more of the same, with the Aggies going on a 12-2 tear starting at the 11:26 mark to put the game out of reach. Coach Shelby Metcalf was pleased with his team’s effort. “We’ve got a long way to go, but we played with intensity, especially early,” Metcalf said. “We were much more intense than we were against TLC.” Holloway said the Panthers needed to be “a litde more pa tient on offense” to stay in the game. “They were tough on the boards,” Holloway sakL “That helped us because they went to to the boards hard and we knew we had to box ’em out.” The Aggies outrebounded Prairie View 40-38, but used their height advantage more effectively on the offensive end of the court to pull down 23 offensive rebounds. The game was marred by 66 personal fouls, and the two teams combined to shoot 83 free throws. The Aggies’ competition gets considerably tougher Saturday : tht when they meet the LSU Tigers in the Summit in Houston. Met calf said he was looking forward to sending his youngsters — the Aggies have only one junior and no seniors — against the No. 7- ranked Tigers. “The game’s got to help us,” - Metcalf said. “We’re playing one of the top teams in the nation. It’s inevitable. Sooner or later it (playing a tough team) was going to happen — whether it was Indiana, Houston, or Arkansas.” Metcalf said he hasn’t settled on a exact lineup yet, and might not for some time. The Aggies started three sophomores and two freshmen against Prairie View, and all 12 players saw playing time. “Like I told ’em (his players) today,” Metcalf said, “it’ll be dif ferent strokes for different folks. We’re not settled on a lineup yet. It’s just too early to tell.” Rockets ‘LeavelF sagging Chicago United Press International HOUSTON — Clutch shoot ing by reserve guard Alan Leavell in the game’s final two minutes led the Houston Rock ets to a 116-110 victory over the Chicago Bulls in a foul-plagued game Tuesday night. We did drop out a few running plays and a few defenses that weren’t doing too good. “But chiefly we just need to keep our consistency.” On another topic Landry said he planned to utilize recently signed punter Jim Miller against the Seahawks in situations that called for short punts angled out of bounds inside the 20-yard line. “We wanted to do that last week, but we never got it done,” said Landry. “We definitely will do it this week. Danny (quarter back Danny White) will still punt when we are in our own end of the field.
