I The conference — titled pThe U.S. Economy in the ISSOs” — will focus on state and national economic issues. I This is the first such con- .ference for the center. About 65 to 70 people are expected to attend. A representative from Business Week maga zine in Houston, the San Antonio Chamber of Com merce, United Press Interna tional and the Associated Press will attend the confer- ence. said Brenda Pejovich, student worker for the center. I Pejovich along with Janet Joyce, publications director for the center, coordinated the event by compiling the in formation, making the sche dules for the weekend, mak ing reservations and inviting the 12 guest speakers. I Speakers and their topics include: • Bill Bret, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, A.S. Hansen, Inc., Dallas — “A Businessman’s Recommendation to Presi dent Reagan” • Dr. Edwin Feulner, presi dent of the Heritage Founda tion in Washington D.C. — “President Reagan’s Foreign Policies and American Influ ence Abroad” • Representative Phil Gramm — “The Economic Objectives of the Reagan Administration” • Harry Hubbard, presi dent of Texas AFL-CIO — “The Future of Labor Unions in Texas” • Dr. Ray Marshall, secret ary of labor during the Carter Administration and currently an economics professor at the University of Texas — “A Cri tical Appraisal of the Econo mic Objectives of the Reagan Administration” • Charles Maurice — pro fessor of economics at Texas A&M, “Major Economic and Social Problems in the United States and Their Causes and Effects” • H.B. Zachry, San Anto nio, businessman and entrep reneur — “The Evolution of Jobs — The Destiny of the U.S.A.” Opening remarks will be given by Dr. Gordon P. Eaton, Texas A&M provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; Lawrence White, chairman of the board of the Center for Education and Re search in Free Enterprise; Carl Raba Jr., a director of the center from San Antonio and Dr. Steve Pejovich, director of the center at Texas A&M. San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros will present a wel coming speech at the begin ning of the convention. Pejovich said the purpose of the conference is to make a contribution toward better understanding of the econo mic events of today by the people responsible for form ing public opinion.
