Grigson, who earned $75,000 last year as an expert witness for the county, testified for the de fense in the drunk driving trial of Sheriff Don Byrd. Byrd was acquitted last week after Grigson testified Byrd may have suffered a mild stroke be fore his car hit a light post in April. “I guess you could say that was the straw that broke the camel’s back, when he started to testify on strokes,” said District Attorney Henry Wade. In an internal memo made public Tuesday, Wade told his staff: “Dr. Grigson will not be called as a witness for the state under any circumstances.
