Rated PG. , 15,i who majli mon law"' ; for more vas arraig ippointedl | Bedazzled: Monday. Dudley Moore and Peter Cook wrote and star in this hilarious, twisted version of the Dr. Faustus tale. Moore stars as a down-and-out short order cook who is willing to sell his soul for the love of a certain waitress. Cook plays a tempting Satan and Raquel Welch plays one of the seven deadly sins: lust (What else?). Rated PG. To Catch a Thief: Tuesday. Alfred Hitchcock directed this comedy adven ture starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. A fast-moving tale about a retired jewel thief who is suspected of commit ting new thefts when an im poster copies his methods. Rated G. The Blues Brothers: Wednesday. Dan Aykroyd and the late, great John Be- lushi star as Jake and Elwood Blues who are on a “mission from God” to save their orphanage. Wonderful music and a stunning cast of cameos, including Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Rated R. Plitt Cinema III Superman III: On two screens. Christopher Reeve returns as the man from Metropolis, Superman. This time, though, he is facing something of a mid-life crisis and has a new leading lady, Lana Lang (played by Annette O’Toole), the girl Superman (er, Clark Kent) left behind in his hometown, Smallville. Of course, the usual array of vil lians is back to pester the man of steel. Robert Vaughn plays an evil tycoon and Richard Pryor plays a computer whiz who falls in with the bad guys. With director Richard Lester still at the helm, Number Three promises to be just as campy and fun as Number Two was. Rated PG. Porky’s II: The Next Day: The same mix of pubescent pranks that made the first one a success are all back, down to the same director. If you liked the first one, this one should do more of the same for you. And if you didn’t see the first one, well, look elsewhere. Rated R. Rocky Horror Picture Show: Midnight. The original cult film is here to stay. The music is great; the plot is campy at its finest; and the audience is usually rowdy. Hasn’t every one seen it a dozen times by now? Aren’t we ready for a new midnight movie? Only Franknfurter knows for sure. Rated R. Manor East Return of the Jedi: Although “Jedi” is not as good as “Star Wars” because of its lack of novelty and its massive pre-release publicity, it com pensates with special effects, bizarre aliens and a fast pace. Creator George Lucas and di rector Richard Marquand make “Jedi” two hours that seems like a four-minute rol ler coaster ride. All the origin al characters are back (and played as competently as usual) along with some new villians and a race of loveable, courageous teddy bears, the Ewoks. Rated PG. Man From Snowy River: See this one before it leaves. Even if you don’t like West erns or the usual “boy grows to manhood” stories, this is still an entertaining movie. You’ve seen the plot before: young man from the wrong side of the tracks falls in love with a rich man’s daughter and must prove he is worthy of her. It may not be a new 5 >w ALAD reates :k art ? twen- condi nt CHAMPS Buy 1 Pair at Regular Price and Receive 2nd Pair* At Price! *2nd Pair must be less expensive pair. idea, but this movie does it is as well as it can be done. Dire ctor George Miller did an ex cellent job of capturing the beauty and ruggedness of the Australian countryside. Kirk Douglas is at his best in dual roles as twin brothers and Tom Burlinson, the star, makes the story believable and inspiring. The story, trite as it may be, will melt even the har dest of hearts. Rated PG. Psycho II: Anthony Perkins returns as Hitchcock’s classic schizo, Norman Bates. Twenty-two years later he returns to Bates Motel. An unpretentious se quel that plays on our know ledge of the first movie. Also stars Vera Miles as the venge ful sister of Janet Leigh. Rated R. Post Oak The Survivors: Starts Wednesday. Robin Wil liams, Walter Matthau and Jerry Reed star in this comedy as three men with a common predicament: unemploy ment. Williams, who plays an unemployed executive, meets up with Matthau, who plays an unemployed gas station owner, in a diner, which is being robbed by an unem ployed hitman, played by Jer ry Reed. Sounds a little too much like real life for a sum mer movie. Rated R. Blue Thunder: Roy Scheider stars as a police helicopter pilot assigned to test an ultra-sophisticated sur veillance and attack helicopter in this fast-paced adventure. The question is: will the good guys get the copter or will the bad guys get it? Also stars Candy Clark, Malcom McDowell and Warren Oates. Directed by John Badham. Rated R. A masked gunman holds up Robin Williams, who plays an unemployed business executive in the comedy “The Survivors.” Walter Matthau, center, plays an unemployed gas station manager. Scatman Crothers, left, takes delight in the fact that the residents of his nursing home have become children in a segment of “Twilight Zone: The Movie,” which starts here Friday. Flashdance: Being hailed as the next “Saturday Night Fever,” this movie has lots of flash, lots of hot music, lots of hot dancing, but not much plot. Schulman Six Twilight Zone — The Movie: With segments directed by John Landis, Steven Spiel- berg, Joe Dante and George Miller, this movie promises to be like four separate episodes of Rod Serling’s classic show. Initial reviews have said that the movie bats around .500 — two of the segments are better than the others. WarGames: Matthew Broderick stars as a teenage computer whiz who stumbles into the Pentagon’s defense computer and almost starts World War IITin this clever, high-tech film. Rated PG. Octopussy: The usual James Bond stuff. Roger Moore (not the real thing) stars as 007 and Maud Adams has the title (Can you believe it?) role. The typical Roger Moore Bond film, no thing more, nothing less. Rated PG. Trading Places: Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Mur phy star in this funny update of the old “Prince and the Pauper” story. Aykroyd stars as a wealthy, preppy commod ity broker and Murphy stars as a street hustler who gets to trade places with Aykroyd on a bet. Rated R. Yello wbeard: Monty Pythonite Graham Chapman stars as the vile, pil laging pirate Yellowbeard. Joining him is this mayhem are fellow Pythonites Eric Idle and John Cleese, as well as British comedian Peter Cook, the late Marty Feldman, Madeline Kahn, and Cheech and Chong.
