'“Whatever you decide to do to her is not enough,” he said. But defense attorney Wilford Lane said the state’s case was rid dled with holes and urged the jury to acquit Hilley. Hilley, 50, a former Anniston secretary and housewife, is ac cused of the arsenic poisoning of her first husband in 1975 and the attempted poisoning of her daughter four years later. She vanished from Alabama before a 1979 trial for attempted murder, and was not found 1 DAY ONLY FRIDAY - JUNE 10 A 1422 Texas Ave. So. The trial began May 30 and the jury was expected to begin deliberatation Wednesday. The prosecution, in closing arguments, recapped its conten tion that Hilley killed Frank Hilley in 1975, then tried to kill her daughter to collect insur ance money. Hubbard also noted the possi bility that Hilley tried to kill her daughter, Carol, because of her alleged homosexual lifestyle. The defense, however, told the jury in closing arguments that it should see the holes in the prosecution’s case. “When you deliberate you will see how many doubts 'will pop up. You are going to know them,” Lane said. The defense took less than two days to complete its case af ter calling five witnesses Tues day morning. Three of the wit nesses had testified for the pro secution. Authorities said Hilley was living under an assumed name in several states. During her abs ence, she was also charged with murdering her husband, whose body had been exhumed. Authorities said that after Hilley vanished, she married a Fort Lauderdale, Fla. man and moved with him to Marlow, N.H. During a trip to Texas, offi cials said, she dyed her hair blonde, lost 20 pounds, and re turned to New Hampshire pos ing as the twin sister of the first alias, whom she said died.
