One of the bill’s sponsors, Sen. Carl Parker, D-Port Arthur, noted that two years ago he was able to win passage within about three weeks of a bill that prptected alligators in Texas. “It’s a shame that in a state where we can protect alligators in three weeks, we can’t protect children in an entire session of the Legislature,” he said. “The Senate is now waiting House.” Parker said the proposed law cotdd save the lives many as 75 children in the year. The senator was joined news conference by two sponsors of the bill, Reps. Hill, R-Garland, and Schlueter, D-Killeen, and health commissioner Dr.Ri Bernstein and public safety ctor Jim Adams.
