United Press International LUBBOCK — Texas Tech University students interested in something other than a tradi tional history class may find “Baseball: A Mirror of America” a refreshing change. But they would be well advised not to regard it as a bas ket-weaving class. “This is not a baseball trivia course,” said Dr. Joseph King. “There are several books that are mandatory reading. There are three exams and a final.” And although many students depart because they have mis taken the class for a fluff course, those who stay are given a worm’s eye view of American history as it reflects on baseball. King and his colleague, Dr. Jim Harper, maintain that base ball accurately reflects the mood of America, and that the game has been forced to respond to the same social and cultural heavals that other ind# have. “You do hear about Teapot Dome scandal in ’; class,” said King. “But you" learn about the Black Sox* 1 dal of the same era. “In this class you learn® Albert Spalding was i other big businessmen time,” King said. “He wast (i bit as ruthless in pi' 1 together the National Leaf John D.
