The College Station City
Council at its meeting Thursday
approved bicycle prohibition
signs that will be placed on
Texas Avenue and Harvey
Road.
John Black, traffic engineer,
said bikers may not travel on
Texas Avenue from University
Drive to Holleman Drive and on
Harvey Road from Texas Ave
nue to the East Bypass. They
may cross these streets but not
travel with through traffic, he
said.
Black said the signs will be
placed on the streets next week.
Violators will be fined $10 start
ing April 26, and after May 26
the minimum fine will be
$37.50.
Elrey Ash, director of capital
management, said a brochure
that will contain a map with bicy
cle routes and the bicycle signs
will be distributed to students
before the first summer session.
The Council also approved a
2 percent cost-of-living increase
for city employees for 1983-84.
Glenn Schroeder, deputy dire
ctor of finance, said this increase
will ensure city employees a con
tinuing fair wage and keep the
city’s pay system competitive.
