,sj&±osvQ TUDENT ENMENT M UNIVERSITY finance Mike Cook freshman economics Duncanville The students of A&M de serve an effective leader in the office of vice president for fi nance^ Mike Cook is that person. I’m Mike Cook and I understand the needs and re sponsibilities and have the re quired experience to carry them out. As a senator, I have established a good working relationship with the Senate. Having won the respect of my colleagues, I recently have been appointed to the Inter nal Affairs Committee as well as working on the Finance Committee. I am looking forward to the job of vice president for fi nance with enthusiasm. I be lieve I have something posi tive to add to A&M. I know I can do the job • The vice president for fi nance chairs the Finance Committee, which allocates student service fees. I see the major job of the committee as studying each program indi vidually to determine if it pro vides adequate services to jus tify its continuance. I would also like to look into alterna tive sources of funding other than student service fees. This is the only way to continue ex panding programs without drastic jumps in student ser vice fees. student services Steven Charles Lessard liberal arts junior College Station I have had prior leadership training in the Corps of Cadets. I have served on the Finance Committee of SCO- NA and have held the position of Finance Director for KORP student radio. I am seeking this position because I feel that I am qual ified to do the job. I have had a lot of past experience with the procedures and problems in the finance and budgeting of a student organization. I be lieve I will be able to use this experience to effectively per form this job. If elected I would have goals for both myself and the position. I would like to have more effective organization accounting procedures for the allocation of funds to stu dent organizations. This would prevent the unneces sary allocation of funds. I would, for myself, like to serve A&M students as effectively as I can with integrity and pride. ~ ■ 1 Photo not available IS! Ellen Anita Pifer junior business analysis/accounting Plano During high school, I held positions in both student gov ernment and National Honor Society. My sophomore year at A&M, I was a senator repre senting Off-Campus Ward IV. During that year, I held postitions on several SG com mittees including Internal Affairs, Awards and Banquet, and Finance. This year, I was selected as a member of the College of Business Adminis tration Fellows Program. This year I was also president of the Christian Science Organi zation. I have been active in the Fi nance Committee for three years, and I feel I can serve the committee next year in this leadership capacity. I feel that the work the finance com mittee does is important to all students at A&M. I am a re sponsible and organized per son, and I feel that these two qualities are vital for this posi tion. I want this position so that I can actively serve the student body. If elected, I would strive to continue the trend toward a more organized committee structure. This is especially important during student ser vice fee allocation. I would try to work as closely as possible with students, faculty and administrators. The main goal would be to have respon sible and effective allocation of the student service fees for 1984-85. Keith Carmichael sophomore accounting Wharton Leadership experience in Student Government — freshman aide, senator for two years in the College of Business Administration, Outstanding Freshman Aide Award, Student Services Committee for two years and Parents’ Day Committee for two years. Leadership experience in Class of ’85 — Executive Council historian. Leadership experience in Student Y—Fish Camp coun selor for two years and Delta Y president. Vice president for student services is a position that is fo cused on the student body. In order to effectively approach administrators and other stu dent leaders with proposals and problems, one must have a professional attitude with a sincere concern for whatever the cause may be. I feel I pos sess both of these qualities. It is important to believe in yourself because as vice presi dent for student services, many decisions will have to be made quickly. Without confi dence, the office will be vir tually ineffective. My major goals for office will be to address each issue as it comes up promptly and in a straight-forward manner. Another major issue I would like to see tackled is stu dent apathy. Although Texas A&M is a great place to go to school, it has apathetic under tones spreading throughout the student body which could be hazardous to our unique and traditional atmosphere. Through dose ties with the yell leaders and other student leaders a program could be in itiated to promote the positive aspects of the student body. If elected, I would try to turn our weaknesses into strengths to make our Univer sity better tomorrow than it is today. Mark Holubec sophomore management Diboll I am currently serving as a sub-chairman on the Parents’ Weekend Committee and as a senator representing the Col lege of Business. In the past, I have also served as a Fresh man Aide for Student Gov ernment and as freshman senator. I believe this experi ence well qualifies me for the position I am seeking. As a member of the student services committee for the past two years, I am well aware of the potential that this com mittee has for serving the stu dents of Texas A&M. The success of the committee this year in instituting the Big Event and the student book exchange has built a firm foundation on which to grow. I am very confident of my abi lities to direct the committee in the development of new programs and projects which would directly involve and serve students. I’m excited about the fu ture of student services and the real and positive influence that it can have in helping to meet some of the needs of A&M students, With your support and vote, I will work my hardest to keep the stu dent services committee the effective group of hard working people that it is.
