Five percent told the interview ers they had no opinion on the subject. The findings of the Merit Re port were the same among all regions, age groups and income levels but differed by sex. Men said they believed in love at first sight by a 30 point margin, but women by only a 14 point margin. The study by Audits 8c Sur veys Inc., was based on inter views conducted Jan. 31-Feb. 4 with a probability sample of ab out 1,200 adults, 18 years and older, living in telephone house holds in the continental United States. Passersby scramble for eggs United Press International PITTSBURGH — The eggs went over easy when a truck car rying 26,000 dozen of them overturned on a busy city high way, providing the makings of a free breakfast for about a dozen poachers who happened along. The truck, carrying the eggs from Coldwater, Ohio, went out of control on an exit ramp off the city’s Parkway East Friday and hit a guardrail, which rip ped open the left side of the trailer. Half the cargo spilled onto the pavement as the rig over turned, officials said. About a dozen passersby, however, picked their way through the gooey debris and salvaged an undetermined number of hardy eggs that sur vived the crash. Times are a-changing United Press International LINCOLN, Neb. — The red, white and blue wasn’t meant to be purple, say students at the University of Nebraska. On March 4, members of a group calling itself the ANAR- KY Party displayed an Amer ican flag dyed purple at a cam paign booth while they ran for election to the university’s Asso ciation of Students. The flag was no laughing matter to the student associa tion, which may file a complaint in student court against ANAR- KY’s unsuccessful presidential candidate, Joni Jacobs — who also faces state charges of muti lating a U.S. flag. “I want to make sure students and the general public are aware neither I nor students in my administration condone such blatant disrespect for our coun try,” student president Dan Wedekind said. No injury for insult United Press International SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — A group of language watch ers says a Michigan State Uni versity trustee has been given its greatest honor — an award for his skill in insulting people. Peter B. Fletcher, an Ypsilan- ti businessman, was given an award Friday by the Interna tional Society for the Revival and Promulgation of Vitupera tive Speech — a group dedicated to the “craft of elaborate insult.” The award was in memory of Samuel Johnson, a British lex icographer who worked on some of the first English lan guage dictionaries. Fletcher’s award was based on several of his comments, in cluding one to a federal highway engineer upset by treatment he received from Fletcher when Fletcher was chairman of the Michigan State Highway Com mission. “Only the emotionally inse cure, mentally limited and pro fessionally indolent would have the time or inclination to take umbrage at my comments,” Fletcher told the man. “It was a very cold day and possibly the minuscule federal brains be came congealed standing out side so long away from their cus tomary desks.” After Spring Break, Before Easter, Warehouse Clearance, Red Tag, We’ve Gone Totally Insane — SALE!
