Kleine, Walker lead scoring
Arkansas rolls past Baylor
United Press International
WACO — Arkansas center
Joe Kleine’s season-high 25
points and guard Darrell Wal
ker’s 20 helped the ninth-
ranked Razorbacks post a 81-66
victory over the Baylor and
break a two-game losing streak
on the Bears’ home court.
The victory Monday night
kept Arkansas within a game of
the Southwest Conference lead
ing and sixth-ranked Houston,
the only team this season to de
feat the Razorbacks, who im
proved their league record to 8-
1 and season mark to 19-1.
Arkansas coach Eddie Sutton
has been looking forward to the
rematch with Houston March 3
since the Cougars’ big win over
the Razorbacks in January. He
did not hesitate to mention the
game after the Baylor victory.
“Houston right now may be
playing better than anybody in
college baskeball,” he said. “I
voted in UPI and I voted them
number one. I was impressed
the way they played against
A&M.”
Kleine, a 6-11 sophomore
who transferred to Arkansas
from Notre Dame, came into the
Baylor game after posting his
previous high total of 20 points a
week ago in a win over Wake
Forest. With the quick backcourt
pair of Darrell Walker and Alvin

Robertson in foul trouble,
Kleine took charge against the
Bears.
With Baylor hanging close in
the second half, Kleine scored
eight points over an eight-
minute stretch to keep Arkansas
in front. In addition to Kleine’s
25 points, Robertson had 13 for
the Razorbacks. Walker scored
10 of his 20 points in the last two
minutes of the game.
Baylor trailed by as many as
13 in the first half, but came
back to cut its halftime defleit to
31-26. The Bears could come no
closer than five points in the
second period, but the deficit
stayed less than 10 until the final
minutes of the game. Daryl
Baucham paced the Baylor
effort with 14 points.
The Bears, who had beaten
Arkansas in Waco three of the
past four years, saw their confer
ence record slip to 2-8 and they
are 10-11 overall.
Sutton said the Razorbacks
had the chance to put the game
away early in the first half, but
mistakes and turnovers allowed
the Bears to stay close. He said
Arkansas, however, played with
more poise in the second half.
“Overall this has to be one of
our best games of the year be
cause our shot selection was
good, our defense was sound,

our rebounding was good,” he
said. “When you have those
three things going for you, you
have a chance to beat anybody.”
Sutton praised the play of
Kleine, Walker and Robertson,
noting he wished he could “bot
tle up” their performances for
future games.
“I made the comment the
other day if Walker, Robertson
and Kleine all played well in one
game, then it’s going to be tough
for teams in our league, maybe
with the exception of Houston.
Houston has so much fire
power.”
Sutton said Baylor Monday
night did not perform as well as
in the teams’ game earlier this
season that Arkansas won 65-60
in Fayetteville.
