The College Station City Council recently passed a re solution allowing Texas A&M to use the city’s third of the funds for purchase of fire fighting equipment to be on duty at the airport and operated by airport personnel. Bardell said. Easterwood Airport is owned and operated by Texas A&M. In the past, each time a plane capable of carrying more than 30 passengers landed at the air port, the College Station Fire Department sent a fire truck and an ambulance to stand by on the runway, Bardell said. This meant off duty firemen had to be called in to man the fire sta tion. The purchase and operation of the equipment by the airport would save the city between $6,000 and $8,000 per year, he said.
