AUSTIN — The knee injury
suffered by Texas fullback
Ervin Davis was not as serious as
was first thought, coach Fred
Akers reported Wednesday. But
Akers said he doubted Davis
would see action Saturday
against Arkansas.
“Doctors checked his knee to
day and decided it was just a
mild sprain,” Akers said. “He
will be checked again Friday, but
he is not expected to play this
week.”
Another injured Longhorn
fullback, Carl Robinson, will not
start in Saturday’s game.

Not one of the four games in
volving Southwest Conference
teams went as expected Wednes
day night, but all of the SWC
clubs won.
Both the Houston Cougars
and Arkansas Razorbacks, who
were supposed to win, did so.
But neither of those victories
was of the easy variety.
And neither SMU nor Baylor
was expected to come away with
victories. But they did.
The perfect evening for the
SWC ran the conference’s early
intersectional record to 15-7
with all of the Wednesday-night
winners keeping perfect seasons
going.
Eleventh-ranked Houston
managed to win its third game,
74-65 over Mississippi State, hut
looked less than impressive
doing it. Arkansas, meanwhile,
had to overcome a surprising
halftime deficit to whip Texas-
San Antonio, 78-59.
Baylor and SMU won their
garnet by a point — the Bears
holding off several scoring
attempts in the final minute to
defeat Alabama-Birmingham,
56-55, and the Mustangs getting
