The tree, which will be on the
ptheast corner of the Texas

labililation Center.

tullough said. ‘‘When I cal-

ji city manager) about it, lie
was very enthusiastic. 1 have to
give him a lot of credit for its
continuing.”
The lighting ceremony is
scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on
Dec. 9. Frank W. Hubert, special
assistant to the chancellor at
Texas A&M, and Allison Utter-
back, the Easter Seal Poster
Child, will flip the switch to light
the tree. The tree will then be lit
every night through the Christ
mas season.
Also participating in the
program are Hal Ferguson, a
coach at A&M Consolidated;
Merrill Green, a coach at Bryan
High School; College Station
and Bryan Independent School
District choirs; and Rev. Bob
Walter of A&M United Method
ist Church will be the master of
ceremonies.
The tree was donated by the
Texas Forest Service, whose
headquarters is at Texas A&M.
The Alphi Phi Omega service
fraternity will collect contribu
tions on campus in the Memorial
Student Center beginning Nov.
15.
The City of College Station
has offered to put the decora
tions on the tree and set up an
electricity pole for the lights,
McCullough said.
Part of the donations will go
toward the building of a new re
habilitation center that will be
near St. Joseph Hospital in
Bryan. The new center will cost
about $1.8 million, McCullough
said, and they still need
$500,000.
Local residents already have
donated $6,000 to the project
and $5,000 of that amount came
from one family to sponsor a
star that is to be placed at the top
of the tree. The family has chal
lenged other residents to outbid
them for sponsorship.
Anyone interested in spon
soring a light on the tree should
contact the rehabilitation center
at 3300 E. 29th St. in Bryan, or
go by the Alpha Phi Omega
cubicle in the MSC.
