think they won’t be tight against
A&M.”
Senior quarterback Tom
Jones probably will start against
the Aggies. Jones had given up
his starting position to sopho

game.
AGGIE FACTS: The Razor-
backs’ Holtz, known almost as
much for his one-liners as for his
coaching abilities, came up with
a few quotable remarks before
the 1982 season. Here are a few
of those memorable quotes:
On finding the right com
binations: “We’re looking for
things to fall into place. It’s com
parable to drilling for oil. You
know it’s around but it might all
be in you neighbor’s yard.”
On senior end Billy Ray
Smith, the anchor of Arkansas’
league-leading defensive unit:
“He’s like my children. The
more they eat, the more they
want to eat. I’ve never seen any
one win so many awards and
work even harder.”
On 6-foot-2-inch, 270-pound
offensive lineman Steve Korte:
“He’s so big the players have
nicknamed him the U.S.S
Korte.”
On running back-wide receiv
er Anderson: “The worst thing
about him is he isn’t twins.”
More on Anderson: “He’s so
talented, he does things you
can’t believe. You ought to see
him play tennis against himself.”
On his sideline position: “I
squat when I’m on the sidelines
because it makes a tougher
target for out fans to hit.”
On the Cotton Bowl: “In my
five years at Arkansas we’ve
been to some great bowls but
we’ve never been to the Cotton
Bowl. This year we are going to
the Cotton Bowl. They may not
invite us, but we’re going any
way.” ... The Aggies’ last victory
in Little Rock came in 1971,
when 2-5 Texas A&M stunned
the 6-1 Hogs, 17-9. The Aggie
Ladies basketball team opens
the 1982-83 season tonight by
hosting Southwestern at 7 in G.
Rollie White Coliseum. The
men’s basketball team opens
with an exhibition against
Athletes in Action Oct. 20 at
7:30 in the coliseum.
