CHICAGO — Investigators
tracking a killer whose cyanide-
spiked capsules of Extra
Strength Tylenol claimed seven
lives, have pared down the list of
suspects to less than a dozen.
But as Illinois Attorney Gen
eral Tyrone Fahner discounted
Tuesday the possibility of a
“copycat” killer in California, a
truck driver was found dead in
his rig in Tennessee with three
foil-wrapped Tylenol capsules
in the seat beside him.
The body of Thomas Isbell,
46, of Kenton, Tenn., was trans
ported to Memphis for an auto
psy and two of the capsules were
shipped to Memphis to be analy
zed, authorities said.
Fahner said “we see no link”
between the Chicago deaths and
a California man poisoned by
Tylenol capsules tainted with
strychnine.

A Los Angeles police official,
who asked not to be identified,
said the federal agents entered
the bizarre case several months
ago and are coordinating efforts
of several law enforcement
agencies.
“It’s their ( the FBI’s) thing,”
the official said. “But the other
(police) departments also are in
vestigating the case.”
FBI agents also are assisting
in the investigation of seven
deaths in the Chicago area from
cyanide-laced Extra Strength
Tylenol.

A spokesman for the McNeil
Consumer Products Co. said
Tuesday strychnine poison was
found in two bottles of Extra
Strength Tylenol taken from a
drugstore in Oroville, Calif, ab
out 75 miles north of Sac
ramento.
The false alarm in Rialto is the
second within a month. Visine
was removed from the shelves of
Thrifty Drug stores throughout
the state last month after a San
Dimas woman thought she was
burned from the eyedrops.

and smoked marijuana with
him. He said he never saw Pulit
zer take any other drug.
Last week, Janice Nelson, one
of Pulitzer’s witnesses, identified
Richards as one of Mrs. Pulit
zer’s lovers. She said others in
cluded a French baker and Jac
queline Kimberly, 32, wife of
Kleenex heir James Kimberly.
Nelson, once Mrs. Pulitzer’s
psychic, decided to testify for
Pulitzer. She said Richards “was
a person who destroyed her
(Mrs. Pulitzer’s) marriage and
she could not get over him.”
While Richards testified, Mrs.
Pulitzer doodled. Once, while
opposing lawyers talked with the
judge, she looked up at him and
smiled.
At stake in the divorce suit is
custody of twin 5-year-old sons
Maclean and Zachary and the di
vision of Pulitzer’s wealth.
