JERUSALEM — Aliza Begin,
wife of Israeli Prime Minister
Menachem Begin, remained in
‘serious but stable’ condition
Wednesday at Hadassah hospit
al where she is being treated for
asthma and circulatory prob
lems, a newspaper report said.
Mrs. Begin, 62, who was
admitted to the hospital Sept.
27, has not been fully conscious
since Tuesday night, Yedioth
Ahronoth newspaper said.
The prime minister, 69, vi
sited his wife of 43 years Tues
day night immediately after dis
cussing the situation in Lebanon
with U.S. envoy Morris Draper.
Members of her family take
turns watching at her bedside,
hospital sources said. She was
moved into the hospital’s inten
sive respiratory care unit Sun
day after taking a turn for the
worse.

Africa — Beautiful Biesiepol,
the burly bullfrog captain which
represented South Africa’s
jumping team in competition
around the world, has died, his
owner said.
“He usually reappears in Sep
tember or when the first rains
come, but he was late and all 1
found was skin and bones,” said
Piem Fourie, the owner of the
famous amphibian.
Biesiepol, who weighed in at
6 pounds during his prime, died
at the age of 9 while in hiberna
tion under a compost heap,
