Parkway At Manor East Mall MORNING Field Goal Kicking Contest This Wednesday! This is your chance to kick the winning field goal and be a star at Kyle Field! The contest will be at 7 PM on Wednesday, October 6th. Entries will still be accepted at the event site until 7 PM. In case of rain, the contest will be rescheduled for Thursday, Octo ber 7 at 7 PM in Kyle Field. This competition offers both men and women the opportunity to see what you can do! See you there! Holding ball - Carol | livan Kicking ball - Janet Br; Move Over Jack Nicholas! The Intramural Long Driving Contest was held on Wednes day, September 22nd. Fifty-one men and one woman were regis- tred in the event. Each contes tant drove three balls, the longest of which was marked as the official distance. In the Women’s Division, the winner was Penny Hughes with a drive of 120 yards. Penny, a 22 year old Applied Math Major, was a former member of the TAMU Womens Golf Team. Penny is from Farwell, Texas. There were a lot of great drives coming from the Men’s Division. Unfortunately, many were out-of-bounds and inelig ible to be counted. The very last contestants, Martin Wells won the competition with a drive of 284 yards. Martin is a 19 year old Agricultural Economics Major from Montevideo, Uruguay. In second place and leader through most of the competition, was Tom Aberle. Tom, a Petroleum Engineering major from Lisbon, North Dakota, had a drive of 274 yards. The participants had a lot of fun and the winners received T- shirts for their efforts. Doug Fritz, a supervisor for Intramural- Recreational Sports, instructs Darcy Hunter in CPR during the First Aid Work shop for Intramural student employees. IM Gameplan BOWLING SINGLES: Bowlers beware! Entries for bowling singles open today and run through Tuesday, October 12th. Come by the Intramural- Recreational Sports Office, 159 E. Kyle to register. Participants must sign up for a day, time, and lane for the qualifying round at the time your entry is accepted. Fees are as follows: Class A & B — S4.60 and Class C — $6.90. For further information contact Paula Opal at 845-7826. PUTT-PUTT GOLF: Putter over to the IM-REC Sports Office and sign up for the Putt-Putt Golf Tournament. Entries open today and run through 6 PM Thursday, October 14 at the event site. The tournament will be held at Pooh’s Park Amusement Center on Thursday, October 14 at 6 PM. A $2.00 fee will be collected at registration. PICKLEBALL SINGLES & DOUBLES: Remember, entries for Pick- leball Singles and Doubles close tomorrow, October 5 at 5 PM. If you haven’t signed up, hurry over to the IM-REC Sports Office to register. Play begins Monday, October 11th. GOLF SINGLES: All TAMU Golfers — get into the swing of things by coming over to the IM-REC Sports Office and entering the golf singles tournament. Entries close tomorrow, October 5th at 5 PM. The tournament will be held on Sunday, October 10th. In case of rain, the tournament will be rescheduled for Sunday, October 31st. Green fees are as follows: Student — $3.50, Faculty/Staff — $4.50, Pull Carts — $1.05. TAMU FACULTY AND STAFF GOLFERS: If you are interested in a Saturday, October 9th golf tournament then come see us in the IM-REC Sports Office. Sign up for a tee time for this 18 hole tournament. Steve Dowell is Tae Kwon Do Champion The Greater Gulf Coast Tae Kwon Do Championships were held in Galveston, and TAMU club members came home with several notable awards. Steve Powell placed first in the hard black belt style form and black belt open form and then was named Grand Champion of the Forms Competition. Other winners were: Terry Craig - second place light weight brown belt Sandy Pierson - third place black belt women Pierson - first place black belt women second place Grand Champion Shigeru Katada - third place hard black belt The Tae Kwon Do Club has performed well in this and other competitions. The success of the club is largely due to the efforts of individual members who are responsible for most of the administrative aspects in addition to practicing. This particular club is primarily instructional, but members compete regularly, as well. Persons interested in learning the Tae Kwon Mo Martial Arts form should consider becoming a member. Entries open Oct. 25th Entries open Oct. 18th FUN RUN - Entries open Oct. 18th OCTOBER SPECIAL EVENTS ‘How they expect me to get this ball through that windmill??” The month of October holds three SPECIAL EVENTS in store for all action-oriented AGS! The Intramural-Recreational Sports Office will offer the following competitions: Field Goal Kicking Contest, Punt, Pass & Kick Contest and Putt-Putt Golf Tournament. These Special Events are one-time activities that are designed especially for those of you who would like to participate in sports competition, but cannot be involved in a semester long activity. The FIELD GOAL KICKING CONTEST is scheduled for Wed nesday, October 6 at 7:00 PM in Kyle Field. Entries will be accepted at the event until 7 PM but participants are encouraged to preregis ter. We urge both men and women to enter. Each participant in the event can attempt one kick at every specified distance beginning at 5 yards (women) and 10 yards (men), continuing with distances that increase by 5 yards with each attempt. The contest continues until everyone has missed from three distances. The top four contestants will advance to the finals. There is no entry fee and official footballs will be furnished. Contestants must furnish their own tees. See you there! The PUNT, PASS & KICK CONTEST will be held Tuesday, October 12th at 5 PM in the Penberthy Intramural Complex. Entries close on Tuesday, October 12 at the event site, 5 PM. Men’s and women’s divisions are offered. Each participant will be allowed one attempt at each of the three activities in the preliminaries. The three distances will be totaled for an individual’s score. The top five scorers in both divisions will be allowed a second attempt to determine the winner. There is no entry fee and official footballs will be provided. You must supply your own tees. Get off the bench and come join us! The PUTT-PUTT GOLF TOURNAMENT is slated for Thursday, October 14th at 6 PM. The tournament will be held at Pooh’s Park Amusement Center across from the water tower, 1907 Texas Avenue South, College Station. Entries will continue to be accepted at the event site Thursday, October 14th at 6 PM. The event will consist of a one-night, 36 hole contest with medalist (or stroke) scoring. Partici pants may play in singles and/or doubles competition. Divisions consist of men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and Corec dou bles. Ties in each division will be decided by sudden death playoffs. All equipment is available at the course. A $2.00 green fee will be collected during registration at Pooh’s Park. Let’s go play golf! TAMU Women s Soccer Team to Much for Opponents! The 1982 TAMU Women’s Soccer Team has literally bio their opponents in their first three games. Scores such as: 94 Stephen F. Austin, 15 - 0 vs. Southwest Texas and 5 - 0 Trinity, reflect their advanced skill level and strength oftheiroi program. On Saturday, the team played Rice on the Drill Fidi PM. The result was TAMU and Rice the next three weeks the team will be on the road playingag University of Rochester, St. John Ficher College and College.
