Carter doesn’t
favor Kennedy
United Press International
ATLANTA — Former Presi
dent Jimmy Carter, now a col
lege professor at Emory Univer
sity in Atlanta told students
Wednesday he would find it dif
ficult to support Sen. Edward
Kennedy for the Democratic
presidential nomination.
The former president
touched on subjects and ques
tions ranging from the Middle
East, Social Security and the up
coming 1984 presidential elec
tions during his first session with
undergraduate political science
students.
Carter plans to deliver lec
tures twice a month to under
graduate classes as well as to law
and theology graduate students.
“It would be difficult for me
at the present time to pledge my
support for Ted Kennedy,’’Car
ter said, of his challenger in the
1980 presidential primaries,
“People tend to be attracted in
him because of his appearance,
because of his great wealth and
his speaking ability,” Carter
said. “But when the people thin!
about do they want him in office
making decisions in a crisis situa
tion, I doubt very seriously the
would give him the majority ol
the votes.”
