Green said Measurement Re search Services offers two diffe rent programs in which students can test out of classes. The College-Level Examina tion Program, which is given on a national level, is offered approximately every three weeks through the Measure ment Research Services office at a cost of $25. The University accepts approximately 20 diffe rent CLEP subject examinations including several levels of En glish, mathematics and history. Green said CLEP tests cover typical course content that has been examined and validated by professors in those depart ments. Departmental examinations also are offered for students wishing to test out of certain courses. To get approval for tak ing an examination, students must petition through the dean of their college to the depart ment offering the course. Green said the most frequent ly requested departmental ex aminations are for required political science, mathematics and foreign languages. Cost of the departmental examinations is $15. Audi tions for the four Texas A&M music groups end this week, and the few spots available are filling quickly. Nearly 300 students will audi tion for the 80 positions that opened after last year’s gradua tion in the Singing Cadets, the you think Women’s Chorus, the Reveliers and the Century Singers, music coordinator Robert Boone said. Students interested in the groups should report immedi ately to 003 MSC and ask for an audition. Each group has a unique style and history and offers students a chance to get musical experi ence. The Singing Cadets is the oldest of the vocal music groups and members have traveled throughout the world for per formances. Robert Boone took over dire ction of the group in 1960. Since then, the group’s tours and per formances have increased to 40 or more annually. The Singing Cadets have performed in the White House, on the Ed Sullivan and Mike Douglas television shows and for the Miss Teenage America Pageant. The Singing Cadets are the only group with a prerequisite of a minimum grade-point ratio of 2.0. Boone said their exten sive traveling schedule is re sponsible for this. Approximate ly 20 spaces are open m the Sing ing Cadets this year. The Women’s Chorus, founded in 1979, is the newest vocal music group on campus.
