Osiecki shot his mother once
while they were in the family
home in South Milwaukee. She
was in fair condition Tuesday at
Trinity Memorial Hospital in
Cudahy.
Police are also investigating
the fatal stabbing earlier Mon
day of the man’s aunt, Dorothy
Zwicke, 57, who lived about two
blocks from the Osiecki home.
Her body was found by her
son, Gary, 29, when he returned
home from work. She had been
stabbed 14 times.
Osiecki told police her daugh
ter, Clarice, was taken by force
from her home by her son after
he had shot her.
Osiecki told authorities she
and her son were returning
from the Holy Family Retreat
Home, an alcoholic rehabilita
tion center, when Glenn asked
her to drive him to Texas.

— A drug that blocks brain im
pulses has caused some obese
people to stop overeating, but it
is not a “wonder drug” and a
single dose costs $ 150, a Univer
sity of Virginia researcher says.
“Much more research is
needed,” said Dr. Richard
Atkinson, chief of the school’s
Clinical Nutrition Center. “I
don’t want people to misunder
stand. It’s not V new wonder
drug that can be used so every
one can get skinny.”
Some obese people may over
eat because they have unusually
high levels of the chemical en
dorphin, which triggers brain
impulses and may stimulate
appetite, Atkinson said
Tuesday.
The drug naloxone, adminis
tered by vein, blocked the en
dorphin and suppressed the
appetites of overweight, but not
lean people, Atkinson said re
search has revealed.
The finding is significant be
cause it leads to “speculation
that fat people overproduce en
dorphins, which makes them
overeat,” Atkinson said.
Researchers plan to test other
drugs for similar effects, he said.
In a single-meal study con
ducted on 23 people, some oi
whom were overweight, the
overweight people who received
naloxone ate less than the peo
ple who were not overweight.
If obese people take the drug
for more than one meal, jjiey
may be able to eat less that) they
normally would over a long
period, Atkinson said.
