LOS ANGELES — The 1984
Summer Olympics won’t be all
sweat and strain. The games will
go on amidst an explosion of cul
ture.
In keeping with a tradition
going back to the birth of the
Olympics in ancient Greece,
when there were competitions
for dramatists as well as discus
throwers, the organizers of the
1984 games are arranging artis
tic events to accompany the
athletics.
Events will begin weeks be
fore the game period —July 28
through Aug. 12 —= and extend
into the fall.
Famous names have been
lined up for exhibitions of paint
ing, theater, music and photo
graphy with dance being given
pride of place as “the art form
most closely associated with
athletics.”
