Texas A&M Battalion Sports July 21, 1982 Page 9 Atlanta drops Cardinals on Washington’s single United Press International The Atlanta Braves proved Tuesday night that they can be persistent. “In the past, if we scored Five runs in the first inning and they scored six, we would be down,” said Atlanta second baseman Glenn Hubbard after the Braves defeated the Car dinals, 8-6, at St. Louis to maintain a six- game lead over second-place San Diego in the NL West. “Now we just say we’re down, 1-0, and we go from there.” The Braves led 5-0 after a half-inning but Rick Mahler was unable to hold the lead as the Cardinals scored six runs in the bottom of the first.
