Szekely, taken in the second
round, has come to terms with
the Kansas City Royals and will

in the rookie league, he will play
winter ball at Sarasota, Fla., in
the instructional league.
Pitcher Steve Davis signed
with the Toronto Blue Jays and
is playing at Medicine Hat in
Alberta, Canada, in the Pioneer
Rookie League ... Shortstop
Dave Kennard has signed with
the Philadelphia Phillies and
will play rookie ball Helena,
Mont. ... Pitcher Bobby Taylor
has been assigned to the Chica
go White Sox’ rookie team in
Sarasota, Fla., while two Aggie
pitchers, David Flores and Rick
Luecken, have not come to
terms as of yet ... Flores was
drafted in the secondary phase
of the draft by the Montreal Ex
pos and Luecken was chosen in
the 12th round by the Cincinna
ti Reds.
Kevin Murray, a Texas A&M
football recruit from North Dal
las High School, has been
drafted and will play for the Mil
waukee Brewers’ rookie team in
Pikeville, Ky.
Two Aggie women’s tennis
team members are relatives of
well-known professional athletic
personalities... Teresa Landry is
the niece of Dallas Cowboy
coach Tom Landry, while
Maylyn Hooten is the cousin of
Los Angeles Dodger pitcher

The answer is yes.
Tradition demands that last
year’s champion start the pro
ceedings in center court, but all
16 women’s seeds this year draw
first-round byes.
So defending champion
Chris Evert-Lloyd meets Bar
bara Gerken of Thousand Oaks,
Calif., today in a second-round
match.
All the other 16 seeds have
the day off — from top-seed
Martina Navratilova down to
16th-seed Evonne Cawley. That
means no sight of Tracy Austin,

va, Wendy Turnbull, Pam Shriv-
er and Yugoslavia’s Mima
