Coaches Charlie Thomas and Ted Nelson say it’s not certain whether sprinter Rod Richard son, who injured a hamstring in the SWC meet, will run in the NCAA meet. That event is slated for June 1-5 in Provo, Utah. If Richardson can’t compete in the 400-meter relay at the NCAA meet, teammate Mike Glaspie may take his place on that unit. Richardson, who won the NCAA indoor title in the 100-meter dash, pulled up lame during the latter part of the SWC meet in Houston. Texas A&M’s other NCAA qualifiers include Don Jones and Chuck Perry in the high jump; Johnny Hector in the long jump; Kevin McGinnis and Robert Windsor in the shot; Richardson in the 100- and 200- meter dashes; James Washing ton in the 200-meter dash; Glas pie in the 110-meter hurdles; Rick Thomas in the 400-meter hurdles, and Washington, Richardson, Darrell Austin and Vernon Pittman in the 400- meter relay. Texas A&M’s men’s and women’s golf teams will partici pate in national competition starting today. The men’s team, which won the SWC title on the strength of Danny Briggs’ med alist honors, plays in the NCAA tournament in Pinehurst, N.C. The women’s team, led by junior Shirley Furlong and senior Monica Welsh, will attempt to win the NCAA na tional championships in a field of 21 teams.
