Republicans said NBC and ABC would carry the ad, but a spokes man for NBC said it was unde cided. Asked if the network had problems with an ad that used 3 look-alike of a former president', NBC spokesman Owen Comora said in New York: “I think that’s what they’re discussing.” ABC reportedly also was del 1 bating turning down the spot but a spokesman would only say “we have not had any ads placed at this time.” Republicans unveiled the ads Monday and said they would spend $>1.7 million to air therYi nationwide. The ads center oil the theme, “Republicans are be ginning to make things better.” Rep. Tony Coelhp, D-Calif, chairman of the Democratit House Campaign Committee, said: “To claim, as the Republi can ad does, that Ronald Reagan was left a recession is a lie.” Coelho said telegrams were sent to the networks and station managers of local television out lets that have sold the Republi cans time for the ads to warti that the commercials are bla tantly false. Airline threatens ; to sue FA A United Press International AUSTIN — The president of Emerald Airlines said Tuesday that his company will take legal action against the federal gov : ernment unless an equitable sys tem for allocating flight space at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport is insti tuted. Emerald President Deatl Rush said the airline has been trying since September of 1981 to get “slots” in and out of DEW but has been put off by the Fed eral Aviation Administration id favor'bf larger carriers! Emerald currently serve* Houston, McAllen and Safi Antonio with DC-9 passenger planes. The airline cancelled service in Midland and Austin when it became apparent it would not receive flight spaed id Dallas. Rush said the airline had been led to believe four times that they would be allowed to serve Dallas, only to have the FAA change its mind. According to Rush, larger carriers have been able to get slots by lobbying in Washington and some have sought to impede competition by making sure smaller carriers cannot get clear ance in and out of the airport.. Rush said Emerald has re quested clearance into Dallas for 16 flights daily, and made its most recent request after the bankruptcy of Braniff. He esti mated that Braniff s demise opened up 168 daily slots into DEW Airport. < “We feel that as a small carrier we are being jeopardized b’y everyone standing back and keeping quiet,” Rush said. “We can’t afford to do that any more.” Rush said Emerald had lost about $1 million because it has not been allowed to fly into Dal las and has furloughed 73 work ers in the last three months. Rush said he had notified the FAA of his intentions to file suit and would wait until Thursday at noon to see if the agency re sponded to his requests before taking legal action.
