A helicopter was able to land
in the only other town within the

to leave before rescue workers
could look for bodies, the
spokesman said. He said soldiers
would return as soon as rains
cool the searing ash.
Chichon, about 400 miles
southeast of Mexico City, has
belched out more than a billion
tons of ash and cinders in a
series of eruptions that started
March 28. Ash has been blown
as far north as California and
Texas.
The spokesman cited army
reports showing 58 bodies had
been recovered by soldiers as of
Wednesday and three military
men and a volcano specialist
have been missing for more than
three weeks.
He said 93 people were se
riously injured and 26,224 were
housed in government refugee
centers. But he said most of the
refugees had left the centers,
many returning to villages out
side the danger area.

3,000-year-old Peruvian mum-
my and a tiny chunk of the Great
Wall of China have finally ar
rived at the World’s Fair in time
or Saturday’s opening.
Promoters had feared the
mummy might miss the grand
opening, but it was in a shipment
of Peruvian treasures that ar
rived by plane late Tuesday
night.
Scientists will unwrap the
mummy before tourists who
pass by the Peruvian pavilion
during the six-month fair.
Wednesday, Chinese officials
uncrated the first pieces of the
1,500-mile Great Wall ever
allowed out of that country.
Security guards stood outside
the Chinese pavilion to guard
the 22 bricks.
