Superintendent Maxie Kitell

northwest Louisiana may seek
approval from the Louisiana
Legislature for a four-day week
to reduce expenses by as much
as 20 percent.
“We do look for some prob

ings said. “Of course, where you
have two working parents,
there’s going to be some prob
lems of where the children
would be on the day we would
not be in school.

with pressures increasing last
year when voters defeated four
tax proposals designed to pre

anticipated from lignite activity
in the area.

WASHINGTON
Although four out of five hos
pitals have a shortage of nurses,
the Reagan administration is
trying to freeze training funds
for nurses.
The Health and Human Ser
vices Department defends the
administration’s stand, saying it
would be better to create innova
tive solutions rather than merely
inject the problem with more
money.
In its proposed fiscal 1988
budget, the Reagan administra
tion proposes no new monev for
nursing student aid. saving the
existing $42 million in revolving
fund capital can he used.
I he administration also
asked for a $29 million t ut. to
$18 million, in budget authority
for nursing special projects,
nurse practitioners and adv
anced nurse training.
