The 9-mile race down the Brazos River starts at 1():()() a.m. Saturday, April 17, Men’s‘, women’s, or corec teams of two will compete in one of two classifications — over 17 ft. or under 17 ft. canoe. Participants must furnish their own canoes, paddles, and life vests or rent them through the Intramural Office for $15.00 (also covers transportation of canoe to start and finish lines). TRACK DIVISIONALS: All those who qualified in the preliminaries last week for this week’s divisional meet should -report to Kyle.Field at 7 p.m, Tuesday, April 13. Again, please stav off the track until football practice is over. ALL-UNIVERSITY TRACK MEET: Divisional winners will compete in the All-University meet on Wednesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Kvle Field. ARCHERY TOURNAMENT: Men and women entered in this year’s Archery Singles and Doubles Tournament should report to Room 304 East Kyle Wednesday night, April 14. Badminton Finals Held Last Week A fast game that requires ^strength, endurance, and excel lent reflexes, badminton is grow ling in popularity at Texas A&M. (Approximately 160 men and Swomen competed in this year’s iBadminton Doubles tourna- 'Jment. The men’s Class A finals were 'held Monday, March 29. Bad- jjminton fanatics, Steve Bong and jjNappadan Sowsavvat, paired up sto defeat Danny Valent a and his partner Steve Duplantis. Independent champions, Dung Pham and Hanh Nguyen met dorm champions Nelson Fox and Eric Sandt from Moses in the finals and walked away with the Class B crown. In the Women’s division, Suzanne Gilboux and lisa Airhart from Hobby Hall defeated two ladies from Underwood in the All-University finals last Tues day. A&M team Wins Prairie View Basketball Tournament In triple overtime, Texas A&M defeated Lamar, 65-63, in the finals of the Prairie View A&M Basket ball Invitational. A team composed of players from the Class A men’s championship intramural team, the Jim Bobbers”, and the men’s super league team, "Ban- nished Forever , included: Dan Ndttebart, Rex Baxter, Robert Bradley, Ben Langston, Brett Kruse, Mike England, Greg Schnelfbacher, and ■ Cliff Stanich. Other teams competing in the tourna ment were Texas Southern and the host team Prairie View A&M. Initially considered the tournament underdog, the Aggies confidently went on to win the tourna ment and capture Most Valuable Player honors. Dan Nottebart and Rex Bradley were named Co- MVP s of the tournament, but it was Robert Bradley who sank two free throws with three seconds left to win the final game. Brett Kruse commented that he would like to see A&M teams travel to more tournaments to compete with intramural teams from other schools. He went on to commend Matt Montgomery for an excellent job of officiating. Matt volunteered to go to the tournament and ended up calling almost all of the games. Brett said he was undoubtedly the best official there. All in all the tournament was a success. The Ags came out on top, while demonstrating the caliber of intramural play and officiating at Texas A&M. Brett and his team are looking forward to future ex tramural competition, so we ll look forward to fu ture success stories. Congratulations, Ags! Todd Swank takes a careful swing in the class B corec tennis doubles finals. Todd and his partner Andrea Lopez are the 1982 champions. Racquetball Wrap-Up The Racquetball Singles tour nament is usually one of the larget of the year, so the winners msut be commended for their efforts and their ability. Men’s Class A All-University cham pion, Lance Gilliam, from Dunn Hall, had to win the dorm divi sional championship before en tering and winning the All-U tournament. Lance defeated Corps champion, James Weaver (E-l) and then went on to defeat independent Mike Hare in the finals. Another dorm division win ner, Kathleen Fairchild, (Keath- ley), had to get past independent Kathy Langlotz in the Class a finals to win the Women’s All- University championship. In Women’s Class B action, independent Cindy Tripp handi ly defeated Sharon Atkins in the All-University final match. The Men’s Class B champion will not be determined until this Thurs day when the Corps or Dorm champion meets independent Brad Thompson in the finals. Congratulations to all who competed this year.
