local THE FUNDAMENTAL FORCES OF NATURE Sheldon Lee Glashow Nobel Prize Laureate Higgins Professor of Physics, Harvard University Rudder Forum, April 12 8 p.m. FREE TO THE PUBLIC Sheldon Lee Glashow is the Higgins Professor of Physics at Harvard University. He has made many important contributions to the theory of elementary particles, for which he received the’Nobel Prize in 1979. For 3000 years man has searched for the fundamental units of matter and the forces by which they interact. As sophistication of the search improved, a succes sion of apparently fundamental units appeared: the atom, the nucleus, the hadron, and most recently, the quark and lepton. We may have discovered the truly indivisible units of which the universe is made. At the same time, a unified field theory has developed which may describe all of the fundamental forces of nature in terms of a single symmetry of the universe. GRUVS R. Part of the curriculum in Aerospace Studies 304, a man agement course for future offic ers, includes the planning and execution of a public service project. Students are required to form committees of two or more, plan projects, carry them out and write up the results. Andy MacDonald, a junior electrical engineering major, and Glenn Swisher, a junior civil engineering major, both from Houston, scraped and painted the Twin City Mission second hand clothing store for their project. The mission supplied the paint and the supplies required for the project. “Our job was to get (he people there, scrape the old paint off. and paint, he said.
