On April 17, family pictures will be taken in the lounge of the Memorial Student Center, and the Rudder Complex, the Stu dent Programs Office and the MSC will hold open house. Ultimate, played with Frisbee discs, is a fast-paced game with two teams of seven players on a 120-yard field, which has two 30-yard-deep end zones. The objective is to move the disc to the opposite end zone by throw ing it to teammates, Tim House- al, co-captain of the tourna ment, said. A Houston team — the Hous ton Aerodynamics — won the tournament when they defeated the Aggies 15 to 10 in the finals on Sunday. Other teams attending in cluded the Austin Ultimate team, the Ether Bunnies from Austin, the Sam Houston State University team, the North Texas State University men’s team and the North Texas State University women’s team. The Texas A&M team con sists of approximately 25 people and usually competes in eight or 10 tournaments an academic year, Houseal said. On April !7 and April 18 the team will attend another tournament in Dallas. The team, previously associ ated with the Disc Association of A&M, is awaiting a decision on their bid for extramural status, which may occur next fall. “We’re getting more competi tive, so we want extramural sta tus,” Houseal said, “if we get it, we may receive some funding from the university to help us host our own tournaments and cover various expenses.” The Aggies practice three times a week either at the polo field or the jogging track, and Houseal said anyone can join in the game. In the game, a player cannot run with the disc and if the disc touches the ground, it consti tutes an automatic turnover. “If I were on team A and threw a bad pass which hit the ground, team B could pick up the disc and move it immediate ly,” Houseal said. The game involves almost continuous running, good disc skills such as throwing and catching, and good disc sense. “It’s similar to soccer in the amount of running,” Houseal said, “There is continuous run ning until a point is scored.” Each time a team moves the disc into the end zone one point is added to its score. No officials watch Ultimate games on any level, including the nationals and regionals. “The game is played on the honor system and the people with disputes settle them them selves,” Houseal said. A few women are interested in the start of a women’s Ulti mate team at Texas A&M, Houseal said, but more women are needed.
