Track teams
to compete in
Texas Relays

The Texas A&M men’s track
team is in Austin for the Texas
Relays this weekend and all eyes
will be on the Aggies’ Rod
Richardson.
Richardson, the NCAA In
door 60-yard dash champion,
will be competing in the invita
tional 100-meter dash tomor
row. Earlier this season,
Richardson won the 100-meter
dash at the College Station Re
lays with the fastest time in that
event this year. Richardson also
holds the NCAA indoor meet
record for his time in the 60-
yard dash.
The Aggies had last weekend
off when the Rice Invitational in
Houston was rained out.
Johnny Hector will compete
in the long jump and Don Jones
will compete in the high jump
for the Aggies. Both Hector and
Jones have qualified for the
NCAA Outdoor Champion
ships. Their qualifying marks
came during the College Station
Relays.
Coach Charlie Thomas is tak
ing a 21 -man squad to Austin for
the Texas Relays. The meet has
women’s and high school divi
sions also, and women’s track
coach Bill Nix will have eight
athletes competing.
After the Texas Relays, the
men’s team will compete in the
Arlington Invitational on April
10. They will be at home in Kyle
Field April 23-24 for the Texas
A&M Relays.
The NCAA Outdoor Cham
pionships, where the Aggies
could earn a national ranking,
are June 2,3, and 4 in Provo,
Utah.
