Texas A&M students to pick leaders

Battalion Staff
Texas A&M students will go
to the polls Tuesday and
Wednesday to choose student
leaders for 1982-83. The follow
ing inf ormation may be useful to
those who cast ballots.
Who can vote?
Any University student w'ith a
current, valid Texas A&M iden
tification card may vote.
What positions can students
vote for?
All students may choose one
candidate for student body pres
ident and one vice president in
each of five areas: academic
affairs, external affairs, finance,
rules and regulations and stu
dent services.
All students also may select
two candidates for junior yell
leader and three for senior yell
leader positions. Students living
on campus vote for Residence
Hall Association officers, and
off-campus students vote for
Off-Campus Aggies officers.
In addition, a student can
vote for senators representing
his living area and his academic
college.
A student living on campus can
vote for one senator to represent
his residence hall area. Eleven
on-campus senators will be
elected from these areas:
•Krueger-Mosher
•Aston-Dunn
•Spence-Briggs-Underwood
•Keathley-Fowler-Hughes-
Clements-Leggett
•McFadden-Haas-Hobby-
Neeley
•Hart-Law-Puryear-Cain
•Walton-Mclnnis-
Schuhmacher-Hotard
•Moses-Moore-Crocker-Davis-
Gary.
A cadet can vote for one senator
of his same classification to rep
resent the Corps living area.
Cadets will elect one sopho
more, one junior and one
senior.
Off-campus students will elect a
total of 27 senators, with each
student voting for the specified
number of candidates from his
particular living area as f ollows:
•University Apartments — one
at-large
•Ward I — south of University
Drive and east of Texas Avenue
— six undergraduates
•Ward II — south of University
Drive and west of Texas Avenue
— nine undergraduates
•Ward III — north of U niversi-
ty Drive and east of Texas Ave
nue — two undergraduates
•Ward IV — north of Universi
ty Drive and west of Texas Ave
nue — four undergraduates
Off-campus graduate students
also will choose five senators.
Students also will elect 38 col
lege representatives to the Stu
dent Senate. Each student may
vote for a college representative
of his own classification as well as
the specified number of at-large
candidates as follows:
•College of Agriculture — one
sophomore, junior, senior and
graduate and two at-large
•College of Architecture — two
at-large
•College of Business Adminis
tration — one sophomore,
junior, senior and graduate and
two at-large
•College of Education — three
at-large
•College of Engineering —
three sophomores, juniors and
seniors, one graduate and one
at-large
•College of Geosciences — one
at-large
•College of Liberal Arts — one
sophomore, junior, senior and
graduate
•College of Science — two at-
large
•College of Veterinary .Medi
cine — two at-large
•College of Medicine — one
at-large.
Students also will elect offic
ers for their respective classes.
Freshmen and sophomores
will vote for a class president,
vice president, secretary-
treasurer and social secretary.
Juniors will choose a class presi
dent, vice president, secretary,
treasurer, social secretary and
historian.
For example, Q.R. Somebodv is
a sophomore electrical en
gineering major who lives in
Dunn Hall. Q-K- would be able
to vote for student body presi
dent, five vice presidents and
five yell leaders like everyone
else. In addition, he could vote
for three sophomore College of
Engineering senators, one at-
large senator, RHA officers and
one senator to represent Aston-
Dunn.
Where and when can students
vote?
Tuesday and Wednesday totes

Agency Building, Zachry En
gineering Center, the Memorial
Student Center, Heidenfels
Hall, Harrington Classroom
Center, Sterling C. Evans Lib
rary and Sbisa Dining Hall.
Tuesday only, voting places
will open at the Veterinary
Medicine Complex, and
Wednesday only at the Kleberg
Animal Science Center.
All locations except the lib
rary will open f rom 9a.m. until6
pan. The library site will open
Tuesday from 9 a.m. to I a.m.
and Wednesday f rom 9 a.m. toll
pan.

The Academic Building has been a
landmark on the Texas A&M campus for
decades. It was built on the site of the
Old Main, the first Texas A&M building,
which burned down in 1912. Thousands
of Aggies have walked through the halls
under the majestic copper dome.
