Larkin The College Station City Coun cil Thursday delayed approval of $2,000 to remove a conde mned pavilion in Oaks Park. The council delayed action so further study could be con ducted into alternatives on what to do with the pavilion. The pavilion became a public hazard when one of the struc ture’s main supporting poles broke several weeks ago. Closer inspection by park personnel re vealed that the majority of the wooden structure’s supporting beams had been eaten away by termites. The pavilion was built in 1979 at an estimated cost of $13,000. Examination of the structure’s construction specifi cations showed that no provi sions had been made to have the wood chemically treated aganist wood-eating insects. In other action, the council approved $47,250 for the pur chase of a lot behind the city hall complex. After the city hall is enlarged, the newly acquired land will be used for parking space.
