are invited to participate in the
meet.
Texas A&M’s standard pistol

Texas Triathlon
Three-sport event set for April 10
Nearly 200 people have
signed up for the first Texas
Triathlon, a swimming, running
and bicycling event slated for
April 10.
The deadline for entering the
Texas Triathlon, a scaled-down
Version of a similar competition
in Hawaii, is April 3. Meet dire
ctor Tom Weis of Texas A&M
University says participation will
be limited to the first 500 per
sons submitting entry forms and
the $12 registration fee.
The Texas Triathlon, jointly
sponsored by the Texas A&M
Extramural Sports Club Asso
ciation, Bryan-College Station
Chamber of Commerce and
Schlitz Brewery, will include
swimming one kilometer (20
lengths of a 50-meter pool), run
ning 10 kilometers (6.2 miles)
and cycling 30 kilometers (IS’/a
miles).
The triathlon will begimwith
the swim at Texas A&M’s Wof
ford Cain Olympic Pool. Upon
completion of this part of the
competition, participants will
run to the Brazos Center, a con
vention park area, where they
will bike along a route on the
Highway 6 bypass on the east
side of Bryan and College Sta
tion.
Activities begin at 8 a.m. Be
cause of the logistics involved in
the swimming, that event will
have several starting times, with
participants being assigned a
starting time in accordance with
their estimates for completion.
“Once they start, however,
the clock keeps running until
they complete all three events,”
Weis said. “In essence, partici
pants are competing against the
clock — and themselves —

awarded to participants who fin

at the swimming pool and trans
