OPEN Monday through Friday 10:45 AM-1:45 PM QUALITY FIRST has increased sharply. These are among the find ings cited in the annual report of the National Institute for Drug Abuse which was presented to a Senate health services subcom mittee Wednesday by Dr. Wil liam Mayer of the Public Health Service. Mayer said the report shows signs of progress but cautioned young Americans have the high est levels of drug abuse of any country in the industrialized world. “Much work remains to be done,” he said. The report revealed that for the third straight year, the daily use of marijuana has declined significantly — from 11 percent in 1978 to a level of 7 percent in 1981. Mayer said the survey, con ducted by University of Michi gan researchers, found there was also a drop in the use of cigarettes, PCP, certain in halants and tranquilizers. The use of alcohol, cocaine, heroin, barbiturates and LSD remained about the same level as the previous year. Mayer said the Michigan re searchers credited the decline in marijuana smoking to an in crease in the seniors’ awareness of the health risks of marijuana and to a decrease in perceived peer acceptance. He saicf NIDA, the states and local communities have empha sized the health consequences of marijuana and added: “We may now be beginning to harvest the fruit of these prevention efforts. While we are encouraged by an overall downward trend, we must not lose sight of the fact that the usage of some drugs, which as not as widely used as marijuana, has gone up.” r MSC ARTS COMMITTEE announces Entries are now being accepted for the Annual Juried Student Art and Craft Competition. University United Press International ST. LOUIS — A toothless white-tailed buck, that defied hunters and died of old age, smashed a 90-year-old record for the largest non-symmetrical antler rack recorded in the world. The 250-pound deer was found dead in St. Louis County Nov. 15, apparently of natural causes. The rack scored 325% points for a non-typical deer on the complicated Boone and Crockett measuring scale, shat tering the record from Texas that had stood since 1892 at 286 points. The record rack, measured this week, goes into the books as a deer “not taken by a hunter.” An official Boone and Crockett score will be determined J panel of judges in March Iff The deer was found bvij Louis hunter who immedii contacted Mike HellandiiJ Louis County consenf Your Danskin Headquarters Manor East Mall 779-6718 The Co-op Student Association & the Cooperative Education Department Present THE CO-OP FAIR Monday, March 1, 1982 Lobby of ZACHRY ENGINEERING CENTER 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Representatives from the following companies will be looking for prospective co-op students and full-time employees: DOW CHEMICAL USA AMF TUBOSCOPE UNION CARBIDE CORP.
