DALLAS — The school dis
trict’s largest teacher organiza
tion plans to protest a new policy
of bumping teachers from
assignments to make room for
administrators forced out of the
office and back to the classroom
by budget cuts.
But school superintendent
Linus Wright argues the policy
— which gives preference by
seniority and race — is a fair and
humane way of realigning dis
placed personnel.
“The key issue is giving these
people the right to pick and
choose and bump people right
out of a school,” Bob Baker,
president of Classroom
Teachers of Dallas, said. “That’s
preferential treatment, and
that’s not good for morale.”
But Wright said the displaced
administrators were moved into
desk jobs to cope with a 1975
desegregation order.

The trial will be conducted in
a special Southern Methodist
University School of Law cour
troom and university officials
will gather juror reactions to the
experiment when the trial is
over, Marshall said.
The experiment will test
whether videotape can replace
live testimony without denying
rights to a fair and impartial trial
to opposing parties in civil cases,
he said.

include a shortening of the time
required to try a case and a de
crease in trial costs.
