UT-Dallas names president

DALLAS — Dr. Robert H.
Rutford, executive vice chancel
lor of the University of Nebras
ka in Lincoln, has been
appointed president of the Uni-
veristy of Texas at Dallas.
Rutford, 49, was appointed
Friday to succeed Dr. Bryce Jor
dan, UTD’s president of 10
years. Jordan was appointed ex
ecutive vice chancellor for
academic affairs with the UT
system in September 1981.
Rutford dealt primarily with
the expansion of research at the
University of Nebraska. Fund
ing from outside sources more
than doubled during his tenure,
a UTD spokesman said.

The coin would be exempt
from capital gains and sales
taxes, in some ways would bear a
legal resemblance to a postage
stamp and in others to a govern
ment security. It could be used
to settle some debts, but would
fall far short of being money as
the term describes paper bills
and coins. The commission spe
cified the coin would not be legal
tender.

Eyre’s wife. Rescuers spotted the
three from the air Friday after
Nelson radioed his position to
search planes.

them because of deep snow.
