Lady Longhorns win tide;
Aggies lose to UH, SMU

The Lady Longhorns of
Texas, winners of last year’s
Southwest Conference women’s
basketball tournament, repe
ated the feat Saturday night with
a 68-53 victory over Arkansas in

had been scheduled for Satur
day but was postponed because
of the rain that plagued College
Station all day.
McClennan, which replaced
Hardin-Simmons University as
the Aggies’ first opponent of the
spring, played better than Har
din-Simmons would have, ten
nis Coach David Kent said.
“The first match (of the year)
is always tough,” he said.
The Aggies won eight of the
nine matches they played and
Kent said the high quality of ten
nis is what he was expecting
from his team.
In the number one singles
match, freshman Mike
Pazourek posted the most im
pressive win by beating Don
Woods, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1.
“Mike’s just a freshman, but
he’s many years ahead of that,”
Kent said. “He’s outstanding.”
Junior team captain Ron
Kowal beat Mario Rauch, 6-0,
6-2. '
“I’m happy with Kowal, who
played so well in the w ind. That
usually bothers him,” Kent said.
The Aggies won singles
matches with junior Brian Joel-
son defeating Ronen Graziani,
6-3,6-3, and freshman Greg Hill
beating Richard Tatum, 6-0, 6-
1.
