Sims, his leg in a east because of

But in his acceptance speech,
Sims singled out his mentors, Uni

“Without their help I would

His mother, who was in the
audience, he described as “my

don’t think I will ever be able to
repay.”
Asked what inspired his per

“I’ve done the things any lineman
wanted to do. ”
“It didn’t take us long to see

The only question that remained
was was he going to do somethin;

Sims said the award wilt

the Padres for pitcher Steve Mura. A “player to be named later
each team was specified as part of the deal and the trade could invold

Alabama linebacker may
miss Cotton after arrest
United Press International
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — All-Southeastern Conference lineback
Thomas Boyd, who was suspended by Alabama Coach Bear Bryantfa
a curfew violation during the regular season, may miss the Coitus
Bowl because of a marijuana possession charge.
Boyd was released on $500 bond Thursday night after being hook
on a felony drug charge at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
The arrest stemmed from a Wednesday night incident in whidfc
police said they stopped Boyd after he almost caused a tralficaccidfii
near the Alabama campus. Police noticed his car had an expired lice®
tag.
Officers said they found marijuana in Boyd’s car.
“After stopping the automobile, the officers smelled a strong A
what appeared to be marijuana, ” Capt. Billy Tinsley said. “Theolfa
found a roach clip (a marijuana cigarette holder) and a small chaf
purse with a plastic bag, which appeared to have marijuana in it
“There was also a capsule in the glove compartment,” he said
Boyd, according to the police report, told the officers the capsali
was an inflammation pill that football players take when theyaff
injured.
Sophomore running back Linnie Patrick was a passenger in the9
but was not charged.
Alabama officials said neither Boyd or Patrick participated intk
team’s practice Thursday. They said Coach Bear Bryant wouldprok
ably make a statement today concerning tire incident.
