Some 250,000 sources of non
governmental aid are available
to undergraduate students at
Texas A6cM University — and
lor $45, a computer will tell eli
gible students which scholar
ships and grants are available to
them.
Student College Aid, a com
puterized scholarship locator
service in Houston, provides
applicants with a list of financial
aid for which they qualify. The
aid is provided hy corporations,
foundations and other private
organizations.
“The students fill out a form
telling their personal interests,
grades, majors, non-aeademic
talents and activities they are
involved in,’ Ed Rosenwasser,
College Aid business manager,
said. "This is how we match up
the students with the financial
aid they qualify for.
The average applicant re
ceives 12 listings, but as many
as 25 listings often are provided,
he said.
“If we don’t provide the stu
dent with more than five
sources, we refund the $45
along with the sources we’ve
found,” Rosenwasser said.
Fewer, scholarships and
grants are offered to upperclass
men; therefore, juniors and
seniors are only charged $28, he
said.
Because it takes two to four
weeks to process the listings,
and months for scholarships and
grants to be processed, students
’ who need financial aid for
spring 1982 should contact Stu
dent College Aid promptly.
“We guarantee the source
lists, but we can’t guarantee
that the student will receive the
financial aid he applies for,
Rosenwasser said.
Texas A&M upperclassmen
also can apply for non
governmental funds through
the Spring Awards program.
Applications for Spring Awards
can he turned in to the financial
aid office in the YMCA Building
in January.
Park personnel
topic of seminar
By SHERYLON JENKINS
Battalion KcportiM-
The need to train personnel for
Costa Rica s national parks will he
the topic of a brown hag seminar
Tuesday.
The seminar, scheduled for
noon to 1:30 p.m. in 251 Bizzell, is
based on a 10-day visit to Manuel
Antonio National Park in Costa
Rica that Dr. Allan S. Mills, an
assistant professor in the Texas
A&M recreation and parks depart
ment, and graduate research assis
tant John Titre made last summer.
Mills said the discussion and
slide presentation combines his
personal observations with his
talks with park officials, forestry
service personnel and rangers in
Costa Rica.
The seminar will describe the
situation in Costa Rica s national
parks to show the need for training
in most Latin American countries.
Mills said. He said he hopes the
seminar will stimulate interest in
the need for park training.
Mills’ research is in cooperation
with the International Ecodeve-
lopment Training Institute, which
is composed of the World Leisure
and Recreation Association, the
Tennessee Valley Authorities and
the Texas A&M parks and recrea
tion department.
Costa Rica was the first country
to request assistance from the in
stitute, he said.
The seminar is sponsored by the
Title XII Strengthening Grant
Program, through Office of Inter
national Programs, which is con
tinuing a series of semi-monthly
seminars to increase and coordin
ate international interest and to
provide information concerning
needs, resources and research in
international areas.
