The win boosted their tournament record to 4-0 and their season mark to 39-14. “I was very pleased with our team play,” Coach Terry Condon said. “We had a great overall effort Hot hors d’oeuvre during Attitude Adjustment and our defense really shined. Seniors Wendy Wilson and Kris ten Bloom sparked our very con trolled and united team effort. ” In the first of three preliminary rounds, the Aggies dropped Sas katchewan 15-4, 14-16, 15-11, and 15-6, and they nipped host LSU 15-8, 9-15, 15-10, 1L15, and 15- 10 in the second match. A 16-14, 15-13, 15-6 victory ovey Tulane University in the last round of pool play earned the Aggies a seat in the finals against Saskatchewan, whom they promptly defeated for the second time in two days. “We didn't really play that well Friday, but Saturday we kind of brought things together,” Wilson said. “Our defense was really play ing well. We were actually ap plying things that we’d been prac ticing. ” Condon said the players would rest over Thanksgiving to gear up for the national tournament in De cember. The Aggies were invited to nationals last year, but this sea son is the first time they ve been seeded in the top twenty prior to the tournament. After missing the Aggies 1981 spring schedule because of acade mic ineligibility, the 6-11 senior center for the Texas A&M Univer sity basketball team led the Aggies to an easy 109-70 exhibition win over the Windsor Basketball Club Saturday night in front of only 3,693 fans in G. Rollie White Col iseum. Woods has received a mix ture of compliments and criticism during his Texas A&M career, but he’s trying to change that by hav ing a strong senior year for the Aggies. Scoring 23 points, pulling down 22 rebounds, blocking two shots and coming up with five steals, the 6-11 Woods paced six Aggie dou ble-figure scorers in the romp over the Canadians. Aggie coach Shelby Metcalf used 13 players in the game, with Woods and forward Claude Riley each playing only 26 minutes. PG Aggies’ amazing total of 81 re bounds, while Windsor had only 38 rebounds. Riley and Naulls scored 14 points apiece, while Riley bad 12 rebounds and Naulls had nine. Jones, Roberts and second-string center Lonniel Bluntson had 12 points each, while Bluntson was the third Aggie rebounder in dou ble figures with 11. Also scoring for the Aggies were forwards Mike Thomas and Kevin Cunningham with six, guard Mil- ton Woodley with four, forward Rhett Reed with two, and guards Mike Brown and Bruce Sooter with two apiece. The Canadians were led by their guards, as starting guards Mike Brkovich and Ed Bialek had 16 points apiece. Bod Curry came off the bench to score 11. The Aggies played aggressively throughout the game, jumping to a 20-3 lead on Woods’ tip-in dunk at the 14:14 mark of the first half. The Canadians pulled within eight, 27-19, with 7:36 remaining in the half, but Texas A&M broke away to a 50-28 lead at halftime when Jones dunked a Cary Lewis alley-oop pass with 44 seconds left in the half. Lewis, a freshman guard from Tuscon, Ariz., didn’t score in the game, but had five assists in 11 minutes of play. The Aggies shot 46 percent from the field during the first half, compared to Windsor’s miserable 33 percent. However, both teams shot better in the second half, as Texas A&M finished at 52 percent and the Canadians shot slightly better than in the first half to finish at 37 percent. The Aggies shot 56 percent from the free throw line for the game, while Windsor managed only 41. Leading Texas A&M from the line were Riley and Roberts, who both hit all four of their free throws. Naulls led the Aggies in field goal percentage, hitting six of nine shots. At times, the game became sloppy, as Texas A&M committed 31 turnovers and Windsor had 36. However, the Aggies superiority under the basket proved to be the difference, as Woods, Riley and Bluntson outrebounded the less aggressive Canadians.
