HOUSTON — Animal cruelty
investigators called to remove an
emaciated and dying mare said the
horse was the worst case of animal
mistreatment they had ever seen.
The horse reportedly had been
ridden as recently as this week de
spite a festering saddle sore so se
vere it had cut through to the
bone. Its body was so emaciated
that its rib cage and most other
bones were clearly visible. Much
of its hair had been rubbed off in
apparent fits of agony.
Officials said the owner fed the
mare rat poison Wednesday and
then dragged her behind a truck to
the front of his home. He called
the city to come take the dying
animal away.
