Stopping crime the aim
of local television show
By NANCY WEATHERLEY
Battalion Staff
An aggravated rape Monday
in the Sevilla Apartments park
ing lot, 1500 Holleman, will be
the subject of an upcoming
Crime Stoppers program on
KBTX-TV.
Crime Stoppers is a series of
televised dramatizations of
crimes designed to help police
in catching criminals and to in
volve area residents through
anonymous volunteering of in
formation. The shows will air
one day each week on KBTX-
TV’s three daily newscasts.
University Police Chief Russ
McDonald said his department
will create the rape dramatiza
tion sometime next week. The
program will be one of the first
to air on Crime Stoppers when
it begins in December.
According to a police report,
a woman was raped Monday
morning at 4 while she was still
in her car. Maj. Edgar Feld
man, assistant College Station
police chief, said no one has
been arrested in connection
with the rape.
The rape is one of seven that
have been reported since Jan.
1, Feldman said. Five rapes
were reported during 1980.
Police hope broadcast of the
program will jog someone’s
memory to help police get infor
mation leading to the arrest of a
suspect, Feldman said.
McDonald said the Universi
ty police have had no on-
campus rapes reported this
semester, but several cases of
indecent exposure have been
reported in the past few weeks.
“I really don’t know why
there has been a sudden in-

“We have material for just ab

some — and we are attempting to
be interdisciplinary — but it will
take a while. ”
The multi-media program is
only two years old, but is growing
rapidly. Library officials are mak
ing plans to expand the depart
ment into a larger area on the sixth
floor in January, Dr. Evelyn King,
assistant director for collection
and interpretation, said.
Librarian David McLellan said
30 to 40 students come into the
multi-media department every
day, but that figure doesn’t in
clude the number of people using
the multi-media programs in clas
ses and meetings. Librarians can
set up the equipment for meetings
and presentations in the library.
Some professors submit tapes of
their lectures for their students.

The race began at 5:30 a.m.
Each of the five-man teams will
add up points, and the team with
the lowest composite score will
win a trophy. The runners were
from different units.
This is the largest event of this
type to be held, David Smith, Re
