(Page 10 THE BATTALION FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1981 Sports Texas, Houston top SWC game United Press International The people who run the Cotton Bowl are a long way from being able to issue an invitation to one of the Southwest Conference schools, but they might uncover a pretty good clue in the Astrodome Saturday night. Five teams still have a shot at the trip to Dallas Jan. 1 and two of them will hack away at each other in the major event on the SWC weekend dance card. Texas, which sports a 5-1 con ference record going into the Saturday night struggle, will face up to the Houston Cougars, who are 3-2 along with three other teams. After facing Texas, Houston’s only remaining games are against Texas Tech and Rice. The Cougars, even if they sweep all three, would still need help in a loss by Texas A&M but the Aggies have a tough schedule left to play. Texas, meanwhile, has games left with TCU, Baylor and Texas A&M. A sweep of those would put the Longhorns in Dallas New Year’s Day. But on top of the importance of the game, the contest should be a good one simply because of the potentially dominant defenses that will be on display. For a change there will be one SWC game this weekend that will not have a bearing on the cham pionship race. TCU goes to Texas Tech with last place on the line. But the other two games — Arkansas host ing Baylor in Little Rock and Rice traveling to SMU — will have something riding on them. Both the Razorbacks and Bears own 3-2 league records and the loser will be out of the title pic ture. The loser also will be close to being removed from bowl con sideration altogether. |)UST< rs qu IrdNie jluTbaci Mi injui iielson, 27 osttlie Rai MK' ' Wilson. n pWv of - he 1 ve alv V|on saic lucli. not fie adcle ■ becau: filson f light he less gi as star Oile year ai nine g Preparing for lift-off Staff photo by Dave Eia lie Oile ght los: Tailback Johnny Hector prepares to jump for the Aggies lone touchdown in last Satur day’s 27-7 loss against the SMU Mustangs.
