Richard Reynolds has been named the winner of Billboard Magazine’s Talent Buyer of the Year Award.
United Press International
BROWNSVILLE — Ten
women coaches who made less
money than their male counter
parts will receive $1,000 each if
the federal government agrees to
accept a settlement offer by the
Brownsville Independent School
District.
The school district suggested
Monday the $10,000 settlement of
a U.S. Labor Department suit
filed on behalf of the women
coaches, who were paid less than
male coaches for 16 months during
1977 and 1978.
The department’s Equal Em
ployment Opportunity Commis
sion had sought a total of $11,200
for the women, but federal attor
neys had not yet indicated
whether they would accept the
school district’s offer of $10,000.
None of the women com
plained formally about the salary
discrepancies. The EEOC disco
vered the unequal salaries in a
spot check of the school district.

it would be given to Town Hall
since it is a combined effort.
“Town Hall works on a student

are involved to make decisions,
not to have someone do it for
them. They do all the work them

Hubbard said it’s easier to
nominate one person rather than a
group of people. Talent agents
would have a difficult time trying
to find someone out of a group
rather than one stationary person,
she said.
“I was surprised to get the
award,” Reynolds said. “Some
schools have a professional staff—
like their own promoters, ticket
workers and such.”
Reynolds said the award recog
nizes how well a show is im
plemented, not just how the talent
is bought. “We have a reputable
operation, ” he said, “which means
that Town Hall’s respect is as good
as its word, which is as good as a
written document, which is as
good as gold.”
Reynolds explained by using
the Commodores — who per
formed Oct. 9 in G. Rollie White
Coliseum — as an example.
“The Commodores’ manager
and the Beach Boys’ manager
knew each other,” he said, “and
the Commodores needed a date
close to Houston. The Beach Boys
manager gave them our name, and
in turn, their manager called us to
see if we had an open date — and
we did.”
The award will help the Memo
rial Student Center and Town
Hall stand out among names of
other such University commit
tees, Reynolds said.
“We won’t be just another
school,” he said. “It will also pub
licize Town Hall’s name more
widely so acts may remember
Town Hall’s or Texas A&M Uni
versity’s names when putting
their tours together.”
Reynolds explained a personal
benefit of receiving his award. “It
gives me greater credibility
among my peers," he said. “Your
peers also listen to you more in
tently if you ... speak at regional
conferences on topics based on
areas of your experience. ”
Two major professional organi
zations, The Association for Col
lege Unions - International and
The National Entertainment in
Campus Activities Association,
hold these conferences. Reynolds
has spoken to each of these organi
zations on the topics of lecture
programming and legal issues.
Reynolds will speak to the
ACU-I Nov. 6 through 8 at the
University. Around 500 delegates
representing three states schools
