The chambers of commerce in
Fayetteville, Springdale and Ben-
tonville have received calls, too,
and are trying to drum up hosts for
the guests.
“We knew of about six motel

now,” Pam Lakey, information
secretary of the Fayetteville
Chamber of Commerce said

“We’re always full for the
Razorbacks’ home football games,
but never like this. Usually, the

The Arkansas-Texas game al
ways attracts a crowd of about
40,000, and room will have to be
found this time for ABC’s televi

ters.

The Texas team is staying 50
miles away at Fort Smith, and
some of the Texas sportswritert
will be 100 miles away in Tulsa,
officials said. Another 100,000
people are expected at the War
Eagle Arts and Crafts Show near
Rogers, and a smaller crafts fair is
scheduled at Bella Vista.
The crowding is complicated by
Columbia Pictures’ filming of the
Civil War miniseries, “The Blue
and the Gray,” in northwest
Arkansas.
“We’re trying hard to be good
neighbors,” Columbia producer
Harry Thomason said. “Our guys
have already become Razorback
fans.”
The new Hilton in Fayetteville
will have its 244 rooms full for the
first time.
“We’re getting baptized to foot
ball weekends on the worst possi
ble one,” manager Dale Athey
said. “The number of requests for
rooms is staggering.”
